Guterres remarked he trusts Brazilian institutions while feeling in shock for Sunday’s incidents, when former President Jair Bolsonaro´s supporters stormed the National Congress, the Federal Supreme Court and the Planalto Palace.

Brazil will face such a situation with the appropriate responsibility, added Guterres.

The UNSG on Sunday night condemned on Twitter the violence in Brazil and insisted on respect for its people.

“The Brazilian people´s will and the country’s institutions must be respected. Brazil is a great democratic country,” Guterres live-tweeted.
