The foreign ministries of both countries reported that Lula accepted the invitation of his Uruguayan counterpart on the said date, just hours after their participation in the the VII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), scheduled to take place in Buenos Aires on the 24th of this month.
The Secretary of the Presidency Álvaro Delgado said that Brazil is Uruguay’s main trading partner, so they hope that this visit will ‘start to set a common diplomatic and commercial agenda of openness on how to think about Mercosur’.
He announced that it will be a moment of opportunities for bilateral relations and for the national interests of Uruguay.
