French private doctors extend strike

Paris, Jan 2 (Prensa Latina) The private general doctors of France announced the extension for another week of the strike that paralyzes a part of health care, which the Government has criticized previously.

The movement of doctors called Doctors for Tomorrow issued a statement regretting that the executive did not show the necessary interest to act in the face of the fragility of the French health system.

The strikers demand an increase in the base rate for consultations from 25 to 50 euros and better working conditions, according to the general practitioners, who began the strike in the final days of 2022. The movement also announced demonstrations for the 5th of January.

This includes the possibility of hiring a secretary and attracting health professionals to positions in neighborhoods where there is a shortage of doctors, an overflow of administrative work, and little interest from young people in working there.

The strike was considered inconvenient by the Minister of Health, François Braun, who reminded that the country is facing a triple epidemic, the Covid-19, Bronchiolitis and seasonal flu. “It is a bad period, we live a week of all dangers,” said the Minister at the end of the year.
