Egypt calls on Israel to avoid escalation and talk to Palestine

Cairo, Jan 2 (Prensa Latina) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling on him to return to the negotiating table with the Palestinians and avoid violence, an official source reported.

During a telephone conversation, El Sisi congratulated Netanyahu on his return to power, Egyptian presidential spokesman, Bassam Rady, said in a statement.

The President emphasized on the need to avoid any unilateral measure that could lead to more tensions and complicate the regional situation, according to the information.

He also ratified Cairo’s position to remain calm and promote the resumption of talks between Israelis and Palestinians so as to achieve a just and comprehensive peace which would contribute in achieving security and prosperity for the people of the region.

El Sisi and Netanyahu also discussed a series of bilateral issues including regional and international situation.

The latter returned to power last week on Thursday at the head of the most right-wing government in the history of Israel, which is causing concerns in the region.

During a recent visit to Washington, El Sisi affirmed that solving the Palestinian issue will represent a giant step in the history of the Middle East and will totally change the serious regional situation.
