The head of diplomacy raised the topic during a telephone conversation with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
Qin recalled and described his previous meetings with Blinken as frank, in-depth and constructive, and assured that he wishes to maintain close communication now under his tenure as Foreign Minister.
The parties also reviewed the progress of relations between Beijing and Washington during which the Chinese minister insisted on the needs of joining forces to improve ties.
On December 30th, China announced the appointment of Qin Gang as Foreign Minister in replacement of Wang Yi, who had held the position since 2013 and was moved to the Political Bureau of the Communist Party.
