At a press conference, Meloni said a few hours ago that she will travel to the Ukrainian capital before late February to mediate the conflict between that nation and Russia because she is in favor of everything that can be done to promote peace and added that concrete work on it is needed.
She said that she is pleased to have heard Zelensky say that he is willing to start a dialogue. She added that Italy is willing to guarantee that process to achieve peace.
For her part, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna on Friday told the Italian daily La Repubblica that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to visit Kiev in early 2023.
The Ukrainian deputy prime minister said that the invitation to the Italian leader is open, but the best time to discuss military support, sanctions and peace conference would be in early 2023.
Regarding a possible visit by President Volodymyr Zelensky to Rome, she clarified that it will depend on the situation on the field and added that Italy would play a fundamental historic role for the victory of all if it also led Ukraine´s entry into the European Union.
On Dec.27, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reaffirmed that his country will continue sending weapons to Ukraine. He said that Rome has a very clear position of support for that nation within the framework of the Kiev-Moscow conflict, in line with the stance against Russia of the European Union and NATO.
