The massacre popped in the town of Airanme, northeastern state of Borno, whose control is disputed by Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), the other Islamist group operating in the area.
Attackers were hiding in the Gajiganna forest, from where Boko Haram was expelled days ago by ISWAP, according to statements to the press from commanders of one of the self-defense militias formed by the central government.
