Angolan satellite built by Russia put in service

Moscow, Dec 23 (Prensa Latina) Roscosmos Space Agency reported that the Angosat-2 telecommunications satellite, launched in the interest of Angola, has come into operation.

The satellite was subjected to all the necessary orbital verifications, including the functional tests of the on-board equipment, service systems and payloads in operational conditions, Roscosmos said this Friday.

Last October, the Proton-M carrier rocket, attached to the DM-03 upper stage, launched the satellite into orbit.

Angosat-2 will provide communications, Internet and digital television broadcasting on the African continent.

Russia and Angola agreed to build the Angosat-2 communications satellite to replace the lost Angosat-1, with which communications were lost the next day after being launched on December 26th, 2017 from Baikonur cosmodrome.

The development and launch of Angosat-2 was entrusted to Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems company, which built it, based on the Express-1000H proprietary platform, Roscosmos stated.
