Salvador reports low homicide rate in December

San Salvador, Dec 22 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador reported an average 0.1 homicides per day nationwide in early December 2022, according to data provided by local authorities on Thursday.

Violent assaults and homicides remarkably declined following the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan backed by the decree of the state of emergency on March 27th, 2022, the National Civil Police (PNC) reported.

Since that date, over 60,400 gang members have been arrested, which has led to a drop in crime and creating a safer setting in the country.

The PNC stated there were no homicide reports across the nation on December 21. This achievement was due to actions implemented by the government which also led to 160 days without death reports from violence.

So far, November has been safest month in Salvadoran history, reporting just 13 deaths due to gang violence, a considerable decrease compared to the most violent year (2015) when 449 deaths due to violence were confirmed.
