“It was all a hoax. There are thousands of dead on the conscience of politicians in Washington and Brussels: old people, women, children, cities, towns, infrastructures and economy destroyed. This is not just a hoax, it is a crime for which they must answer,” he stated.

Volodin blamed Brussels and Washington for the deaths of civilians in Donbass during attacks by Ukrainian troops carried out with the assistance and training by foreign military forces.

“As it turned out, none of them planned to comply with the Minsk agreements. That was just a screen behind which Ukraine was being pumped full of weapons, preparing for an attack on Donbass and Crimea,” he stressed.

He also said that the launch of the military operation in Donbass was the right decision to ensure the security of Russia and avoid a human catastrophe.

“Historical decisions were made to recognize the independence of Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions made their choice: to be with us. All factions in the State Duma unanimously supported this decision,” he added.

According to President Vladimir Putin, the accession of the territories “is an inalienable right of the people. It is based on the historical unity in whose name generations of our ancestors won.”
