Peace agreement in Ethiopia favors recovery of tourism

Addis Ababa, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The peace agreement between the federal government and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) contributes to the recovery of tourism sector in Ethiopia.

After the recent arrangement, the number of travelers from overseas and members of the diaspora entering the country for business or leisure has increased, Tourism Ministry said.

Peace and stability are keys for visitors who wish and are able to come to develop cultural, religious, gastronomic and sports activities, among others, and therefore the pact opened a new chapter in the country, according to the ministerial communication.

The tourism sector was one of the most affected by the conflict in the north with the TPLF,in combination with the great impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the statement,which does not disclose demonstrative recovery figures, since the end of hostilities, there is a favorable environment to receive citizens of all nations and also promote national tourism.

It also states that “to attract more tourists for the upcoming Christmas and baptismal holidays, the promotion of tourist destinations has already begun, and we hope that many will arrive during both festivities.”

“We are working to make tourism a key part of the economy, with the correctness of policies and legal frameworks,” the ministerial communication explains, and urges the diaspora to “expose the true current situation of Ethiopia to further strengthen tourism sector.”
