Yu Shoaliang, editor-in-chief of the People’s Daily newspaper, made the announcement during the opening of the second meeting of the entity taking place in Beijing both online and face-to-face.
Prensa Latina was chosen for being a medium of international prestige and importance and within the board it will participate in the provisions made by the News Network, founded in 2017 and currently integrated by 218 organizations from 101 nations worldwide.
The president of Prensa Latina, Luis Enrique Gonzalez, will speak later in the meeting via videoconference from the entity’s headquarters in Havana, Cuba.
The Council of the Belt and Road News Network is headed by the People’s Diary, and held its first session in April 2019 with representatives of 40 media organizations from about twenty countries.
Its leader, the president of the People’s Diary, Tuo Zhen, presented the results of the work carried out in recent years, highlighted the coordination between the members, and mentioned among the future plans. He also informed about the holding of forums, visits and other projects to expand exchanges between journalists of the world
During the ceremony the News Network presented for the first time its Silk Road Global News Awards, and among them, granted one to Prensa Latina’s correspondent in China, Yolaidy Martinez, who participated in the category of Feature Reporting with the article ‘Belt and Road, roads that expand from China’, written about the second international summit of the same name project, held in April 2019.
