The new site, with a capacity to generate 2.2 megawatts (mw), is located in Los Cristales, bordering Casilda, and will be synchronized to the National Power Grid (SEN).
The works, divided into three areas, cover the assembly of 400 panels that will occupy some 45,000 square meters, technological containers, a control house, and a meteorological station, among other facilities.
The Construction and Assembly Company in Sancti Spíritus is in charge of civil engineering and its construction.
The Technical and Specialized Services Company in Cienfuegos is the project sponsor.
The total generation capacity in Sancti Spíritus is currently about 20 mw, and the projections are to reach about 40 mw by 2024.
The energy matrix modification will benefit Sancti Spíritus, especially the mountain ranges and faraway places where the national grid is not possible to reach.
More than 700 isolated photovoltaic modules have been installed in these isolated places to improve this rural population’s standard of living and reduce the exodus to the cities.
