Messages from Canada call for US bridges of love with Cuba

Ottawa, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) Messages in favor of bridges of love between the United States and Cuba, and an end to coercive measures were highlighted on social networks on Sunday after a recent vigil in the Canadian city of Vancouver.

Several activists called on US President Joe Biden to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that Washington has imposed on Cuba for more than six decades and that is considered a violation of human rights.

On Friday, people in solidarity with the Cuban family converged in Vancouver, in the province of British Columbia, and called for an end to hostilities from the White House.

Cuban residents and friends of Cuba joined their voices in favor of brotherhood between the two peoples, despite ideological differences.

“Cuba yes, blockade no”, ratified those present at the vigil, while calling on Washington to lift its coercive measures, which cause limitations, shortages, and suffering to families in Cuba.

Andrew Barry, who leads the caravans against the blockade in Vancouver, described the US blockade as unfair and illegal, as well as a policy of genocide that tries to deny the Cuban people’s right to access medicines, equipment, and other materials. considered basic.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Bridges of Love Coordinator Carlos Lazo explained that the initiatives are part of others that will take place this month in several cities around the world to advocate for the normalization of relations between the US and Cuba.

According to Lazo, participants will demand that Washington speed up the family reunification process at its embassy in Havana, promote the process of sending remittances to relatives in Cuba, and foster broad cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries.

They will also demand the immediate elimination of all provisions that hinder the flow of food, medical supplies and other basic resources to Cuba, as well as lifting the limits imposed on the right to travel freely to Cuba for all citizens and residents in the US.

In addition, the activists will call to exclude Cuba from the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism, according to the White House, which reinforces the impact of the blockade, as well as difficulties for insertion in international trade and and financial operations.

There will be a vigil in Miami, the United States next Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., local time, at the international airport.

“Our objective is to mobilize those who share these opinions in a peaceful and effective way to demonstrate that the true feeling of the majority of South Florida residents is to build bridges of love with the Cuban people,” Lazo insisted.
