Cuban university students assess challenges at FEU Congress

Havana, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) Strengthening the links with the membership and further contributing to the construction of society are the challenges for the Cuban Federation of University Students (FEU) on the verge of its 100th anniversary.

Delegates to the 10th FEU Congress, which opened in Havana on Saturday, talked to Prensa Latina about the main ideas they will defend at the event, which will last until December 20.

Laura Maura Bacallao, FEU president at the University of Camagüey, emphasized that the sessions of the university students’ meeting have to be a reliable example of what young people currently think.

“We come to this congress with great expectations,” the third-year Journalism student said and highlighted the analyses in the brigades, the faculty, students residences, and for the first time in the communities, where a fundamental concern is the identification of the members with the organization.

How to make it more attractive? What strategy to implement for that purpose? How to grow in communication actions so that members feel more identified? How to gain credibility for the organization and the project we defend within it? These are some of the answers we need to find among all of us, she said.

The 10th FEU Congress opened on Saturday with a tribute to Julio Antonio Mella and an analysis of the fulfillment of the agreements of the previous event.

The plenary session and the closing ceremony will take place at Havana’s International Conference Center on December 20, when the FEU will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
