In a ceremony held at the Universal Art Building of the National Museum of Fine Arts, authorities from the Ministry of Culture and co-workers honored Gómez Cairo for the selfless work he has carried out.
His name stood out among the eight candidates presented by various institutions in the country, who also register a meritorious work such as Ángela Rojas Ávalos, Juana Tomasa Quiala Rojas, Olga López Núñez, Lelis Julia Marrero Oliva, Margarita Suárez García, Luciano Castillo and Gloria Esther Artze.
Director of the National Museum of Music, the researcher and professor has served as Advisor to the Directorate of Unesco Affairs and International Organizations of the National Council of Culture, while he developed the coordination of the Development Program of the Cuban Institute of Music dedicated to the rescue, translation and diffusion of the Musical Heritage of the country.
National Music Award in 2018, for his work in the preservation, study and dissemination of the sound wealth of the island, made him deserving of other recognitions such as the Alejo Carpentier Medal or the Distinction for Cuban Culture.
