According to a press release from MIREX, the Dominican Government reaffirmed its political will to promote mechanisms for the promotion and defense of the fundamental rights of all people in the country.
The PNDH 2018-2024 is the product of a broad consultation process carried out with state institutions, civil society organizations, and various related sectors, with the aim of strengthening social inclusion, participation, respect for human dignity, and the fight against poverty.
“The commitment has two aspects: on one hand, making human rights a transversal axis of the entire public administration, institutionalizing all pertinent processes that promote their defense and protection; and on the other hand, to motivate the participation of civil society in strengthen our democracy,” Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez explained.
He also highlighted the active role played by the Foreign Ministry in guiding State institutions in matters of Human Rights.
“We went from being a consulting entity to one that coordinates the Human Rights Commission, which is the one that heads the National Human Rights Plan as a state agenda. (…) We carry the most important content, programs and actions to guarantee the country’s human rights, he said.
