The country should complete the workload and launch preparations for the construction of the national report on the fourth cycle in 2023, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc said during a ceremony on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day.
Vietnam, a country that shares progressive ideas on human rights as assured by the United Nations, decided to develop and implement policies on their protection and promotion and has achieved outstanding results, recognized and appreciated by the international community, the official stressed.
In this regard, he highlighted the election of Vietnam to join the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2023-2025 term and asked the agencies of the organization and other related parties to continue cooperating with Vietnam so as to complete the process of the fourth cycle of universal periodic review on time and with the highest quality.
During the ceremony, the UN resident coordinator in Hanoi, Pauline Tamesis, pointed out that the election of Vietnam for the HRC demonstrates concrete efforts to protect and promote economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights, according to international norms.
The VNA news agency reported that the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program, Ramla Khalidi, emphasized that the UNDP will continue to accompany and support Vietnam in the fourth cycle of the universal periodic review through the development of capacities for ministries and other interested parties.
