CDC warns about spke in respiratory illness cases in U.S.

Washington, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday warned the whole country about the surge in respiratory virus infections and encouraged people to wear face masks anew to help reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses nationwide.

According to health officials, influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV) are currently sreading simultaneously.

The CDC reported that 13.7% of Americans live in high Covid-19 communities levels, an increased 9% from the previous week.

Cities including Los Angeles, Maricopa, Nassau and San Bernardino are among those reporting most cases. The list also includes part of New York, so NY officials encouraged schools to call for mask-wearing to curl the coronavirus spread.

The country´s Covid-19 hospitalization pace jumped 13.8%, higher than the previous week´s report, according to CDC.

Los Angeles hospitals, for example, reported a daily average of 1,245 Covid-19-infected patients, up 20% from previous seven days´ report.

As Christmas and New Year’s Eve holidays draw near, health officials warned infections could spike even higher, putting significant strain on healthcare system if people do not take proper cautions.

As for RSV, those most at risk are children aging 6 months and younger who do not have strong immune systems yet.
