Syria launched new immunization against Covid-19

Damascus, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) Syria has launched a new vaccination campaign against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, in an effort to avoid a new outbreak of the disease.

According to the Director of Primary Health Care of the Ministry of Health, Razan Tarabishi, 20 hospitals, 852 medical centers and 360 mobile teams were mobilized for the success of this day, with the intention of reaching the most remote rural areas of the country.

During the campaign, which will last until the 15th, 7,314 health workers will immunize as many people as possible over the age of 18, including pregnant women and women who have just given birth, Tarabishi said.

In the last four months, the country reported only one death due to this disease, while a maximum of two confirmed cases are confirmed daily.

According to official data, the country has so far confirmed 57,413 infections, 54,245 recovered and 3,163 deaths from the disease, while there are currently four active cases.

Syria is facing the pandemic in the midst of a blockade and sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union, policies against it that prevent the import of medical equipment and necessary health supplies.

However, this country received help from several friendly nations such as China, Russia, India, Iran and Cuba; and the latter donated 240,000 doses of its vaccines.
