Cuba: Consumer prices grew 4.21 percent in October

Havana, Dec 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuba´s Consumer Price Index (CPI) grew 4.21% during October and 39.73% in interannual terms, the National Statistics and Information Office (ONEI) reported on Thursday.

The indicator, which shows the average variation experienced by the prices of a basket of goods and services representative of the population’s consumption, registered an accumulated increase of 28.76% and stood at 250.03% with respect to the 2010 base.

The three divisions that had greatest effect on the monthly variation in October 2022 were food and non-alcoholic beverages (78.88%), restaurants and hotels (11.33%) and miscellaneous goods and services (2.93%).

Specifically, both food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased 6.85% during the last four weeks and 62.73% over the same month of the previous year.

Meanwhile, restaurant costs registered a monthly rise of 4.48% and a year-on-year rise of 47.79%. Goods and services grew by 1.57% in October and 14.36% with respect to 2021.

According to ONEI, to calculate CPI, some 33,596 prices are collected monthly, in 8,607 establishments, located in 18 municipalities nationwide.
