According to the agency, the total number of daily contagions was 77,604, the highest figure in the last 83 days, amid persistent concerns that the country could face an increase in cases during the winter.
The figure, in which 84 cases are imported, is sharply up from Monday’s 23,160 infections.
The coronavirus has recently regained strength in South Korea as people retreat from colder weather and spend more time indoors, and the risks of contagions are higher.
With Tuesday’s registration, the Asian nation raised its total number of cases to 24,408,000 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The mandatory use of facemasks indoors is still in force in South Korea. The Government considers it an essential measure to protect people from the virus.
