The climate adaptation plan, led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, through its Environment Agency, is supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and will be implemented in coastal communities of six Havana municipalities.
Its application will begin in the areas from Bajos de Santa Ana, in the municipality of Playa, to Rincón de Guanabo, in the municipality of La Habana del Este.
Playa, Plaza de la Revolución, Centro Habana, La Habana Vieja, Regla and La Habana del Este will also be included, which will make it possible to reduce the risk of natural disasters and adapt to climate change, finding viable solutions to be inserted into existing development plans.
This project is supported by the Green Climate Fund and is designed to last four and a half years, backed by funding of three million US dollars.
Cuba has sustained research and adaptation work on its risk plans to face the consequences of climate change, as well as create conditions for resilience in the population and structures.
Since April 2017, it has a State Plan for this issue, called Life Task, which, on a multidisciplinary scientific basis, contemplates five strategic actions and 11 tasks aimed at counteracting the effects on vulnerable areas.
