KCNA reported that the spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) said that South Korean troops had fired dozens of projectiles, allegedly reactive rocket launcher shells, toward the southeast from the Iphyong commune of Cholwon county in South Kangwon province.
In response, the high command of the DPRK forces issued urgent instruction to the frontline units to maintain perfect surveillance and counterattack and ordered the outstanding troops in the eastern and western regions to fire warning shots of 130 shells to the sea, the spokesman added.
He reiterated that Pyongyang will always respond overwhelmingly to all provocative actions against the DPRK and urged the South Korean Government to immediately cease its military actions that aggravate the tension around the frontline.
The DPRK also called on Seoul to stop this attitude, provoking this situation unnecessarily and exacerbating the situation in the region.
