According to the Presidency of the Republic on Twitter, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro, saw off Díaz-Canel in Cuba.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and the Governor General Susan Dougan received the Cuban president on St. Vincent’s soil.
“This visit will result in the consolidation of the excellent political relations and will allow us to progress in our cooperative relations”, the Cuban head of State said during a meeting with Gonsalves.
You are the closest brothers we have, and we are the closest brothers you have”, he said.
Both officials toured areas of the Argyle International Airport, built with Cuba’s help, following an idea of the historic leader Fidel Castro.
It is the first visit by a Cuban head of State to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a Caribbean nation comprising some 33 islands and cays.
President Diaz-Canel’s tour of Caribbean nations will include his participation with several ministers in the 8th CARICOM-Cuba Summit to be held in Barbados next week.
