The Ministry of Foreign Relations highlighted in a statement that the situation in Libya was one of the points addressed during the meeting between Shoukry and his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani.
According to the communiqué, Shoukry highlighted Cairo’s efforts trying to restore stability and peace in the region.
In recent months, trying to find a solution, Cairo has hosted several rounds of negotiations between representatives of the High Council of State, based in western Libya, and the national Parliament, based in the east.
Libya has experienced a spiral of violence since the overthrow and subsequent assassination of Muammar al-Gaddafi in 2011, after a war supported by members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
As part of his tour, Shoukry also met with a UN special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen.
