IOC chief intends to keep sanctions against Russia, Belarus

coi sanciones deportivas a Rusia y Belarús
Lausanne, Switzerland, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach called on international sports federations on Tuesday to hold sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes.

The recommendation that the international federations should not recognize their sports competitions and the veto on displaying national symbols of these countries at sports events should remain in force, Bach wrote in a message.

The OIC chief was due to open the Forum of the Global Association of International Sports Federations in this city but failed to attend, so Vice-President Ng Ser Miang had to read Bach’s welcoming speech.

Bach was not present at the meeting because he tested positive for coronavirus.

At the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees held in October, the IOC president spoke out against total politicization of sports and the punishment of Russian and Belarusian sports organizations.

However, this speech goes back to the origins of the condemnations following the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
