FSB thwarts terrorist attack against South Stream gas pipeline

Moscow, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) prevented an attempt to sabotage the South Torrent gas pipeline organized by the Ukrainian special services, as reported by the FSB Public Relations Center.

“Russian citizens involved in the preparation and supporting the terrorist attack with resources were detained,” the FSB reported.

Four magnetic mines, four kilograms of plastic explosives, delayed action fuses, 593 thousand rubles and phones containing correspondence and negotiations with the special services of Ukraine were seized.

“The messages show the instructions for the assembly and installation of an explosive device, as well as the transfer of funds and the coordinates of the place of the explosion in the Volgograd region,” the source stated.

According to the report, the Investigative Department of the FSB initiated a criminal case under the articles of preparation for a terrorist act, being linked to a terrorist entity and its organization, and explosives trafficking.

The pipeline consists of two lines with an annual capacity of more than 15 billion cubic meters of gas.

The first branch transports Russian gas to Turkey and the second to the Balkan countries.
