This Wednesday, the People United for Life alliance, which brings together several workers’ unions and community movements, made a public statement to the media and the nation criticizing the government while calling on their organizations to remain alert and mobilized on the streets.
Social activist Marcos Guzman told Prensa Latina that demonstrators would not allow the CSS Board of Directors that he believes is in complicit with the Executive and private businesspersons, to impose measures such as increasing the retirement age and raising workers’ contributions.
They will also demand that the authorities respect the agreements signed in the single negotiation table set up with the Catholic Church as a facilitator for 40 days since July.
The CSS and the Executive officials committed themselves to restructure the composition of the actors in those talks and the inclusion of representatives of the people, Guzmán added.
Marco Andrade, Secretary General of the National Confederation of Independent Trade Union Unity (CONUSI), said that to talk about social security, they would have to start defining a new moderator, the methodology, and the issues to discuss. The National Front for the Defense of Economic and Social Rights stated that the changes generated by the Government could aim to privatize the insured’s funds.
It reaches funds for subsystems such as Disability, Old Age, and Death (IVM) based on plundering natural resources such as open-pit mining.
