The new mechanism replaces the conference between the committees of the three legislative bodies that had been held till now to promote and strengthen friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the three countries.
Such collaboration will focus on socioeconomic development, defense and security, and people-to-people exchanges for a sustainable development of each nation and the region as a whole.
The structure will also promotes and follow up on the implementation of the agreements, action program and cooperation projects, reached by the three governments and the multilateral agreements of which these countries are members. According to VNA news agency, it will also promote information exchange, experiences, and good practices in the performance of the functions and tasks of the three parliaments and budget allocation.
It will also work on finding ways to mobilize capital from partners in and outside the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam region to carry out programs and projects in the triangle development and other fields of cooperation.
Lao National Assembly President Saysomphone Phomvihane, Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and Cambodian National Assembly President Heng Samrin signed the declaration on the establishment of the summit on the sidelines of the 43rd Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
