Mitakidera Temple: nature and spirituality

Tokyo, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Hidden as of 809 at the dense forest of Mount Mitaky, Hiroshima, the Mitakidera Temple waits for visitors.

This sacred site pays tribute to the victims of the 1945 atom bomb explosion and is one of 33 stops in the Japanese Buddhist pilgrimage “Chugoku 33 Kannon.”

It turns out to be a complex of temples spread upward on the slopes of Mount Mitaki, which has three waterfalls that feed several natural or man-made fountains, with a strong spiritual dimension.

In perfect harmony with nature, throughout the tour of the temple visitors can watch hundreds of statues of Buddha and Bodhisattvas, including stone representations in which those of Jizo, protector of children and traveler, abound.

In Japan’s Buddhist temples there is this type of structure where people tie up bad omens so that they never occur, although Mitakidera also stands out as a sacred space for other religions, typical of Japanese syncretism.
