Cuba ready to support the work of the World Peace Council

Hanoi, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is willing to contribute to the strengthening of the World Peace Council, as assured by Fernando González, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

The 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba defined three fundamental priorities, the first of which is the fight for peace, Gonzalez told Prensa Latina.

ICAP is responsible, from civil society, for putting this guideline into practice, which is fundamental for us, he declared.

Gonzalez explained that the participation in the twenty-second Assembly of the World Peace Council will make it possible to reiterate Cuba’s willingness and contribution to the work of the entity based on Cuba’s experiences and the strength of its organizations.

The World Peace Council was founded in the late 1940s and is made up of a significant number of countries, but it carries out its work with some difficulty, since in many cases the organizations of which it is composed, lack resources to carry out their activity.

The World Peace Council continues to have an essential role to play in the struggle for peace, hence the need of strengthening its work, insisted Gonzalez, who also stated that Cuba has had historically a notable participation in this organization.

The 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council will be officially opened on Tuesday, with the presence of more than a hundred delegates, representing 51 organizations from 47 countries, as well as special guests.
