Nepal holds elections with enthusiasm in a peaceful atmosphere

Kathmandu, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) Nepal's elections to the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies on Sunday are being held enthusiastically and peacefully, and nearly 18 million voters are voting in 11,000 polling stations.

Bhoj Raj Pokharel, who is on an election observation mission on behalf of the General Election Observation Committee, said the voting is taking place in an organized manner, The Rising Nepal reported.

A former Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, said that voters have been lining up and systematically casting their votes since early Sunday.

Today, Nepalese citizens will elect 275 members to the House of Representatives and 550 seats to the seven provincial assemblies.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya pointed out that representatives from India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, 18 diplomatic agencies in Kathmandu, and 7,207 members of 44 national organizations are observing the elections.

The Ministry of Home Affairs deployed nearly 300,000 troops to ensure security during the voting.
