Natural treasure

Havana, Nov 19 (Prensa Latina)

According to scientists from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Conservation Monitoring Centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), there are currently 202467 protected areas in the world, covering almost 20 million square kilometers or 14.7 percent of the land on Earth, excluding Antarctica.

Located at a deep Canyon in Jordan, 400 meters under sea level, you can find one of them: the Mujib National Reserve. It extends to the Karak Mountains on the South, and Madaba, on the North, reaching an altitude of 900 meters in some areas, the reason for which it presents an altitude variation of 1300 meters.

In this space set up in 1987 by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in Jordan (RSCN), ecological processes continue their dynamics and show how nature emerges from life despite human predatory action.

The area’s unique biodiversity, still being studied, is favored by a lot of water coming from affluents that nurture the Mujib River. In this sense, there are more than 400 types of plants, more than 250 animal species, and almost 200 kinds of birds, nearly half of them migratory.

Due to the abundant water, different activities can be done in Wadi Canyon. Adventure tourism is carried out in one of the country’s most stunning natural scenarios, which, besides being such an incredible autochthonous natural setting, it’s a destination that guarantees fun and enjoyment.

For all that, characterized by a hidden underwater world and crossed by streams that run, fall, and flow through the rocky walls of this canyon, full of whimsical shapes that twist and turn, with colors that range from ochre to pink and even bright red.
