According to JAXA, the location of the probe that traveled on the US Space Launch System rocket on Wednesday is still unknown.
Local media reported that everything was functioning well a few hours after the probe separated from the spacecraft, but so far, Japanese scientists could not confirm its current status.
The Omotenashi is a small Moon lander that is 11 centimeters long, 24 centimeters wide, and 37 centimeters high.
If the success of the mission, estimated at 60 percent by JAXA, is guaranteed, the Omotenashi would become Japan’s first probe to land on the Moon.
