Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease -known by COPD, is defined as a series of conditions that together greatly limit the flow of air to the lungs.
Some of COPDs are chronic bronchitis, emphysema, dyspnea, sputum production and the famous smoker’s cough.
According to specialists, COPD is not only cough and shortness of breath, it is actually a potentially lethal disease that, if not treated in time, leads progressively to death.
In this regard, the World Health Organization (WHO) highly recommended a series of actions, including the development of policies and alliances in various sectors of society to control this type of non-communicable disease.
The 2022´s slogan for World COPD Day is “Your lungs, for life”, because we are born with a pair of these organs and they are for the whole existence, hence the significance of keeping them healthy and protecting the most vulnerable populations.
