Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) The president-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, received, from the governors of the Legal Amazon, a document that defends the common agenda for climate transition.

The Amazon Charter, a common agenda for climate transition, was read by the governor of the state of Pará, Helder Barbalho, who invited Lula to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27).

Sources close to Lula reported that he will make a statement followed by a press conference. Later on he will hold various, not as yet confirmed meetings, one of them with Frans Timmermans, climate commissioner of the European Union.

Lula spoke on Tuesday with the envoys of the United States and China to the UN event.

“I met a moment ago with John Kerry and Xie Zhenhua, who represents their countries, the two largest economies in the world, in the climate debate at COP27,” Lula wrote on Twitter.

At the moment there are high expectations that he will make important announcements in the forum, and also that Brazil will correct the errors of disastrous environmental policy of the government of President Jair Bolsonaro.

This is Lula’s first trip abroad as president-elect. He is also scheduled to meet with UN Secretary General António Guterres and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, and with leaders of other nations that are fighting deforestation.
