Economic improvements in Chilean primary healthcare demanded

personal-sanitario
Santiago, Chile, Nov 15 (Prensa Latina) Members of Chile's National Confederation of Municipal Health Officials (CONFUSAM) began a labor strike on Tuesday to demand improvements in the budget allocated to the population's primary healthcare.

The strike’s organizers stated that the protest was scheduled for 24 hours but could last if they were not satisfied with the authorities’ reply.

Although emergency care is being maintained, the municipal clinics’ network, the first step in the national health system, will be paralyzed.

According to CONFUSAM President Gabriela Flores, the discontent was due to the allocation of funds referred in the State budget, currently under discussion in the National Congress.

The clinics currently receive an average of 9,048 pesos (about 10 dollars) for each person registered and the estimation for next year is an average of 9,728 pesos (10.87 dollars).
