The meeting took place minutes before the official opening of the 2022 Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2022), which is taking place at the Expocuba fairgrounds in Havana.
According to a message on Twitter from the Presidency of the Republic, Díaz-Canel also spoke with members of the UAE delegation, which is participating in FIHAV for the first time.
Representatives of more than 60 nations are attending the new edition of the Havana International Fair, which is reaffirmed as the largest commercial exchange in Cuba and the Caribbean.
Cuba and the UAE promote cooperation in sectors such as tourism, education, culture and communications, which received a boost during the 2020 Universal Expo, held in Dubai.
The Cuban pavilion at that meeting was visited by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai.
In March of this year, during another segment of that event, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed al Zeyoudi, met with Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Déborah Rivas, and they agreed on new actions to boost bilateral relations.
