The official stressed during an interview that the high humidity of the soil compromised the quality of the cereal and altered the forecasts, since work was done to achieve an overproduction at the end of last September, when the 2021 harvest concluded.
Arrúa explained that at least 60 percent of the grain lacked the necessary properties for the production of flour, highly consumed in the country and of great demand in the world market.
A Foreign Trade report from the Paraguayan Chamber of Exporters and Traders of Cereals and Oil seeds, published last week, noted that wheat exports fell 8.8 percent during the 2021 harvest.
It indicated that Paraguay exported 330,235 tons between October 2021 and September 2022, that is, 31,888 tons less than in the 2020 harvest.
