London Underground paralyzed by another employee strike

metro-londres
London, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) Most London subway stations are closed due to another strike staged by some 10,000 London Underground workers.

The new 24-hour strike was convened by the Railway, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) after negotiations failed with the TfL company, in charge of managing train and bus services in London.

The TfL lost a golden opportunity to advance in these negotiations and to avoid the strike, said the leader of the RMT, Mick Lynch, whose union demands that the employers reverse their plans to cut down some 700 jobs and change the pensions’ scheme.

According to Lynch, workers of the London Underground are determined to continue intermittent strikes until a fair solution be found for their demands.

This Thursday’s strike affects the 12 lines of the “tube”, and only the recently inaugurated Elizabeth line is in operation, as it is managed by another company.

Despite the chaos and unrest generated by the closure of the stations in the morning rush hours, several political and social organizations, including the Socialist Workers Party, the “Stop the War peace coalition” and also members of the public, expressed, through social medias, their support to the protests.

Former British Labor Party leader and MP Jeremy Corbyn, who now sits as an independent in Parliament, also showed up at one of the North London stations to support strikers, according to media local reports.
