The first phase of the vaccine distribution will begin on Saturday and will last three weeks, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, 500,000 doses will be distributed to cover 70 percent of the target groups in the areas most vulnerable to the spread of the disease.
The Minister in the interim Government, Firas Al-Abyad, pointed out that the regions where vaccination will start were selected on the basis of presenting a geographical environment with rivers and potential floods, evidence of contamination in water sources and density in the number of infected patients.
Al-Abyad stressed that cholera in Lebanon is under control and the vaccine is important to curb the spread of the disease.
