Geronimo Lopez, secretary general of the General Confederation of Peruvian Workers (CGTP), and Mariano Flores, leader of Rondas Campesinas, a popular security organization, coincided in statements to Prensa Latina.
Lopez and Flores are members of the National Assembly of the Peoples (ANP), a front of political and social organizations organizing Friday’s march against what they call the coup Parliament. It is managed by forces that intend to remove President Pedro Castillo from office.
The Congress’ board of directors suspended Friday’s plenary session, alleging that the Police high chiefs suggested taking security steps due to the risk of infiltrated extremists, who could act against the legislative palace, in tomorrow’s protest.
A closing and defense exercise of the Congress premises in central Lima added to the measure, despite that, as López and Flores reiterated, the march called ‘The attack on Lima’ will be peaceful and orderly, as other similar protests have been.
