The deputy director of the event, Sun Chenghai, explained that the agreements contemplate the purchase of goods and services in various sectors, including agriculture, mining and the machinery industry.
The amount achieved in 2021 was in the order of 70,720 million dollars; and many of the agreements were made with the countries involved in the Belt and Road initiative.
Sun added that despite the persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic, around 2,800 domestic and foreign companies were present this year, and they have already begun receiving registrations from firms interested in participating in the sixth exhibition in 2023.
The Shanghai exhibition ended this Thursday after showcasing national and foreign companies in search of establishing contacts and business networks.
Due to Covid-19, the CIIE had a virtual section for the third consecutive year, and did not see a large presence of businessmen from other countries as in the first two editions.
China intends to use this event to raise the level of openness, promote economic globalization and the project of the Belt and the Silk Road, to which end, starting in 2017, it gradually lowered taxes on thousands of imported goods and made customs mechanisms more flexible to smooth the entry of goods, especially high-quality, innovative and environmentally friendly ones.
