The meeting was also attended by representatives of ministries and security agencies from both countries, who analyzed information security issues, the TASS news agency reported.
The Russian and Iranian representatives also exchanged views on international issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
In addition, both sides discussed bilateral law enforcement cooperation, interaction in the field of public security, and the fight against terrorism and extremism.
Patrushev and Shamkhani stressed that Moscow and Tehran should expand the exchange of experiences in developing economic potential and strengthen foreign trade ties amid sanctions.
They also paid special attention to the development of Russian-Iranian interaction in the international arena.
At the end of the consultations, the parties reaffirmed their willingness to continue strengthening the dialogue between Russia and Iran through their Security Councils.
