The JMA informed that the quake occurred at 17:40 hours, local time, at a depth of about 50 kilometers south of the Japanese demarcation.
Although with less intensity, the telluric movement was noticeable in several regions of Honshu, the largest island of Japan, including the capital city.
Noriko Kamatani, director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Department at the JMA, said at a press briefing that there are risks of landslides and rockslides in the areas that had seismic activity, as well as aftershocks during the coming week.
So far, the police and local fire departments report no significant material nor human damage.
