The pressure measure imposed by the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) on Saturday demands reinstating payments to the provident fund stopped during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, Judge Anna Mwaure ordered ‘the Kenya Airways pilots to resume their duty by 06:00 hours, local time, on November 9, 2022, unconditionally.’

Mwaure ordered the airline’s management to allow the pilots to perform their duties without harassing or intimidating them and not taking disciplinary actions against them. Those pilots make up 10 percent of the workforce.

The latter follows Kenya Airways’ announcement on Monday of ending the union’s recognition and withdrawing from the collective bargaining deal, accusing KALPA of ‘exposing the airline to irreparable damage’ for disregarding a court order to suspend the strike.

Kenya Airways has been facing financial problems despite a government injection of millions of dollars to keep it on the air.

According to official figures, the strike will jeopardize its recovery estimating losses at 2.5 million dollars per day.
