For the last 14 months, the Taliban Government has banned girls above the sixth grade from attending school, which has generated strong reactions in and outside Afghanistan.
Activist Obaidullah Bahir, presenter of the campaign, stated that it is not a politically motivated initiative; it only seeks to open the doors of middle and high schools for girls immediately.
It is a non-political campaign. The aim is to invite different people for a week, both Afghans and foreigners, expert teachers, and anyone interested in discussing the opening of the schools, Bahir stated.
However, Education Ministry officials did not comment on the issue, despite repeated requests.
At the same time, with the closure of girls’ schools, the presence of women in higher education institutions and university entrance exams has also decreased.
