In the context of the climate summit, COP27, the two leaders exchanged with Lebanese interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati to whom they emphasized priority on the designation of a new president of the Republic, due to restructuring of the institutions. Mikati and Guterres discussed whether the multilateral organization could make an effort to elect the next Lebanese head of State and thus avoiding to prolong the constitutional vacuum.
In the meeting with Macron, the cabinet chief stressed the French role in addressing the situation in Lebanon, and the French statesman insisted on the need to appoint a president following the end of Michel Aoun’s mandate on October 31.
In light of his attendance at COP 27, Mikati held talks with Tunisia’s Prime Minister Najla Bouden in the presence of Environment Minister Nasser Yassin.
PM Najib Mikati delivered a speech at the closing ceremony of the High-Level Segment of the Conference of Parts (COP 27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which gathered more than 100 heads of State and Government, along with delegates from nearly 200 countries.
