Over 45 million votes were cast ahead of midterms

Washington, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) As Americans head to the polls on election day, over 45 million people have already cast their ballots ahead of the midterms, in order to redefine the control of Congress, 36 governorships and other positions.

According to CNN, Texas continues to be the state with highest votes ahead of the opening of the polls, exceeding 5.4 million ballots.

Meanwhile, more than 4.9 million ballots in Florida were mailed and over 4.7 million ballots in California.

Georgia, with around 2.5 million ballots cast, and North Carolina, with 2.1 million ballots, are the only other states reporting more than two million voters so far.

As reported by CNN, the toll of ballots will increase as more mail is delivered, voters cast their ballots and election officials update their tallies.

Voting before Election Day was ahead of the 2018 pace in every state where data is available over the past three cycles, the CNN noted. However, it is still too early to tell whether overall turnout will reach the levels of four years ago, as voting patterns may have changed.

In coming Nov. 8 midterms, Americans will vote for 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 senators.

Websites specialized in political analysis, such as FiveThirtyEight, considered GOP as possible winner for seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives, which would complicate Joe Biden’s administration in the two years he has left as president.
