According to CNN, Texas continues to be the state with highest votes ahead of the opening of the polls, exceeding 5.4 million ballots.
Meanwhile, more than 4.9 million ballots in Florida were mailed and over 4.7 million ballots in California.
Georgia, with around 2.5 million ballots cast, and North Carolina, with 2.1 million ballots, are the only other states reporting more than two million voters so far.
As reported by CNN, the toll of ballots will increase as more mail is delivered, voters cast their ballots and election officials update their tallies.
Voting before Election Day was ahead of the 2018 pace in every state where data is available over the past three cycles, the CNN noted. However, it is still too early to tell whether overall turnout will reach the levels of four years ago, as voting patterns may have changed.
